It is important to know the source of your oils. Here are six key questions to ask of your provider.
1. Is the Latin name of the plant provided? (It is on the label of all the Be Young essential oil singles.)
2. Is the name of the country where the plant is grown available? (Again, right there on the label.)
3. Is there a statement about purity? (Yep, every Be Young essential oil is EOBBD tested, that stands for Essential Oil Botanically and Biochemically Determined, which means that they’re tested to make sure that there are no surprises in the bottles of oil, no synthetics, no extenders, no extra oils from other plants, etc.)
4. Is the cost comparable to other brands? If it’s really cheap, it probably isn’t the real thing. (You can save a few bucks by being a member.)
5. Does it smell like you would expect? (If an essential oil smells rancid you’ve got an oil with an extender or carrier oil in it. Excluding citrus oils which have a slightly shorter shelf life, a 100% pure essential oil will be good, if stored correctly, for centuries.)
6. Is there an indication if it was grown organically or wild crafted? (Right there on the label. Folks, this is becoming more and more important as we discover more and more of the side effects of pesticides. An essential oil that has surprises in it can do more damage than good.)
Please be advised that nearly every brand available in health food stores are synthetic or adulterated. They can be extended by 50% or more with Jojoba and other carrier oils and still say 100% pure! You will never find that in a Be Young essential oil, that’s part of the guarantee.

Essential oils should be labeled with the Latin name of the plant that it is made from. (Do you know what specific Lavender plant was used to make your Lavender oil, and, for that matter, if that is the best kind of lavender?) If the blue tansy used in your essential oil was not grown at the proper altitude, or has certain additives used in processing, as some do, extended use of this oil can cause a toxic build up in the blood stream.
Check to see if you are getting 100% essential oil or if carrier oils of one kind or another have been added. If they feel oily or if they are not instantly being absorbed, they may not be the quality you are looking for. Smell the oil, one nostril at a time. If you feel a twinge over the right eye, it is likely there has been a chemical or solvent added. If you feel a twinge over the left eye, it probably wasn't distilled properly.
